Nebraska Nines: Home From Pinehurst

After a break, we are back. From Pinehurst (and the beach). Two places we will forever love.

Nebraska Nines: Back From Pinehurst

Bryson Dechambeau’s insane up-and-down from 55 yards away on Sunday afternoon hit a little different at our house. The crew had just been to Pinehurst for the practice round on Monday. Got to see Tiger among others.

It’s always been a very special place for our family. You can learn more about that here. So, to be there for this Open (and to try in my head to not go back in 2029 and 2034 and …. well, you get it).

Some quick thoughts regarding Pinehurst and this 2024 US Open. As good as it gets from Bryson and Rory. BD has completely earned himself back into my fandom, the dude is just doing everything right at this moment in time. Will miss him dearly at the Olympics. As for Rory. I submit to you a fine piece from Golf Digest’s Shane Ryan, who documented his final hour so well. Lantana Camara

Myrtle Beach is high up on our list as well. That’s from Mrs. Newsletter, who spent nearly every summer there for a spell while growing up in Pittsburgh. So, the break was good for the soul. Everyone’s.

Now, we get back to work. With a quick Newsletter today, and more “Nebraska Nines” planned throughout the summer. Thanks for coming along.

Catching Up: Overtime in Beatrice

The Nebraska PGA Junior Championship concluded yesterday at the most awesome Beatrice Country Club with Elkhorn North standout and Creighton pledge Julia Karmazin winning the girls division and Millard North senior and Omaha commit Sam Vocelka taking the boys crown.

Both needed extra sessions to claim the title that advanced them to the PGA Junior Championship at Congressional Country Club outside of Washington DC later this summer. Karmazin took down Fremont’s Ansley Giesselmann and Vocelka took down two-time Nebraska Junior champion Beau Petersen on the third playoff hole. All four golfers advance to the national tournament, however.

It was the end of a big week for both Karmazin and Petersen. Both completed repeat titles at the Nebraska Junior late last week which, for the first time, earned the winners exemptions into the US Girls Junior and US Junior Amateur.

A BIT MORE: The 52nd annual Nebraska Cup matches between the top amateur and club professionals in the state ended in a 36-36 tie at Lost Rail on Tuesday which meant the pros retained the Cup. It was the first time in eight matched it was retained. RESULTS

The Nebraska Senior Amateur begins on Thursday at Wayne Country Club. PAIRINGS
